January Workout Summary

After taking most of December to rest my body after my bout with Rhabdo, I’m back in the swing of things in the New Year. January has been good to my body and maybe just maybe it’s because I am taking time each day to really stretch, fancy that! Here is my full workout breakdown and miles logged for the month!

Run, 12 runs- the dogs and I got outside and ran a TON this month. Just last week we got 5 runs in… FIVE! I seldom do that. I typically run every other day, but sometimes when the pups are driving me bonkers, I just lace up my shoes and get outside. It will be interesting to see how often I get outdoors to run while we’re in Arizona. I won’t have the dogs for the extra push so it will be up to me to motivate myself to get out and run a few times a week! It’s a good thing the weather is SO beautiful in the desert this time of the year and running really is my favorite way to explore a new city.

Orangetheory Fitness, 11 classes- Before leaving for Spring Training I wanted to hit the OTF game strong. I felt like I needed a little extra calorie burn after the holidays. Anyone with me on that?! Since upping my OTF attendance from 1-2 times a week to 3-4 times a week my speed and endurance is close to where I was last year. I love the endorphin rush I get after class and being back with my OTF peeps!

Spin, 2 classes- I got myself to spin class TWICE this month, once in San Diego and once here in Sacramento. Speaking of endorphin rush, have you taken a spin class recently? Holy Cow they are INTENSE and FUN. So, so FUN! The energy is electric, the music rocks, and you get such a great cardio workout! I think I may be hooked.

Kayla Itsines BBG, 11 workouts- Yeah baby, #TheKaylaMovement started on January 11 and you bet your butt I jumped on board this year. Three workouts a week, 28 minutes, piece of cake, WRONG! Even though I’ve been doing BBG on and off for 2+ years now, the workouts never get easier. I still get sore, I still hate commandos and I still can’t wait for the 28-minutes to be OVER! Ha!

Extra Workouts- My extra workouts this month included yoga, rebounding on my mini trampoline, and stretching at night. Although stretching is not really a “workout” it is something I wanted to make note of in my summary. Stretching was one of my New Year’s resolutions and something that I wanted to be more disciplined with in taking care of my body. For the pounding my knees take on the pavement and the work my muscles receive in the weight room, I was not stretching NEARLY enough. So, this month I tried to stretch & foam roll each night before bed. Let’s hope I can keep this up the entire year!

Well that’s a wrap on January and the baseball off-season. I am heading down south to San Diego to my parent’s house for a week before making the drive east to Phoenix for Spring Training. I am looking forward to getting outdoors, soaking up some vitamin D and getting the new season started!
