December Workout Summary

I almost didn't write my December workout summary because, well… I hardly worked out. I pride myself on staying in shape but this December I fell out of shape, just a bit. For me it only takes a few days to lose cardiovascular shape. Having been diagnosed with Rhabdomyolysis however, it was necessary for me to take a break from my normal workout routine.  I listened to my body (and my doctor) and took 10 full days off from working out. If you know me at all, you know that taking even 2 days off in a week is a lot for me! If you missed my post on Rhabdo check it out here.

After those 10 days, I eased my way back into working out with some light cardio & Orangetheory Fitness workouts. Since my arms got the worst of the Rhabdo, I pretty much eliminated any sort of upper body lifting in my regimen. I just started incorporating some arm work in the last few days.

Being open and honest with my readers is important to me. I like to think that I live a clean and healthy lifestyle. The healthy thing for me to do in the month of December was to NOT WORK OUT. My body needed a little TLC. So I listened. The old me would have NEVER taken 10 days off in a row. I would have continued to run, squat & work my legs because they weren't swollen like my arms. But the new more “healthy & balanced” me listened to my body’s needs.

In December, I walked my dogs more often than I ran them. I went to a much-needed yoga class with the sweetest & most influential blogger, Jordan Younger from The Balanced Blonde, and I didn't worry about my OTF results on the screen, I just attended the classes to break a sweat.

Instead of taking "rest days", I took a rest month. The timing could not have been better with my family in town for 2 weeks during the holidays. Not worrying about fitting my workouts in my schedule allowed me to be present with my family & friends & really enjoy the holiday season.

And NOW… I am officially B-A-C-K. I'm still taking it easy with my arms, but I'm starting to whip myself back into cardiovascular shape! I'm starting Kayla Itsines' 12-Week Bikini Body Guide on January 9, so be sure to check out my posts highlighting this killer 12-week program!

Cheers to a Healthy & Happy New Year!
